I am a dreamer, first. Second, I am a painter. I envision a world where we value art as a part of our necessary human experience –where we understand that being creative is just as important as breathing. I am a lifelong artist and believe through creativity we unlock the invisible boundaries between us as humans. I will go out on a limb and say that creativity can unlock the secrets to each of our own individual centers.
Wowo! What a statement! ? I know! But I am a 100% believer in the fact that painting and art have unlocked the truth inside of me and I have seen it unlock the truth in other people. On this journey, I continue to uncover more and more understanding about myself and about the world around me. I want to bring this to my community and to the world at large. It is my mission to find the universality of creative expression and connect myself to that wavelength to find the strongest link of commonality and connection between all life - human, nature and beyond. I really believe that the wavelength I am looking for is the unfettered ability to speak from the center of authenticity. Believe it or not authenticity is not just saying the first thing that comes to mind - a previous version of myself would have begged to differ.
All of these words can seem so elusive and quite trite without the actual story behind why or how I finally woke up to what they mean. As a younger artist I spent so much time believing that in order to be an artist - I must suffer. I was unreasonably self-destructive. I was cutting myself down before I could even try or start. I woke up and I finally started to ask myself to be more positive, more loving towards my own ideas and see where that goes. It has changed my life to shift my thinking in this way. As a result, I am so happy to celebrate my femininity and fiercely nurture myself above all else.
So here I am! Here are my paintings and my going-ons! This is how I am trying to create the space I want for artists in the world. I have a podcast to give exposure to artists called Dream a Little Dream on iTunes, Google Play, Stitcher and Soundcloud. I am also currently curating the space inside Montclair Vegan which has connected me to so many local artists and also provided me with a place to hang my own work!
Painting is MY passion; MY creative inclination. Paint, the way it acts, how to control it and how to make beautiful things from it is my medium; is my playing field. Somehow between all of the above super brainy things - I find the time to paint. I post my paintings here when they are done but you can follow along on instagram at jssitylr or jessietaylorpaints. Thank you for visiting. I appreciate your presence.
